Don’t put it in the freezer. This is an old internet myth from a different era of drive design. Today it mostly adds condensation to your problems.

If it’s wet, keep it wet. Counterintuitive, but a flood-damaged drive that dries out leaves mineral deposits on the platters. Seal it in a bag with a damp cloth and get it to a lab quickly.

DIY recovery software versus a professional lab
